3D Printing

Interested in printing 3D models?
With 3D printing, any of the downloadable STL files can be used to create a three-dimensional solid object that may be used as a teaching tool or for scientific outreach purposes. Parameters like the object size, the degree of infill, and the material color can be selected to generate a unique object on a personal 3D printer or sent to a 3D printer such as the one available through an institutional library or private printing company. We use a desktop DLP (Digital Light Process) resin printer that uses a projected light source to cure the resin layer by layer.

We recommend the following parameters for printing -

For an SLA (Stereolithography) 3D printer:
Footprint: off-bed scaffolding supports
Print dimensions: 20 - 75 mm diameter
Quality: 0.12 - 0.2 mm/layer
Percent infill: 15 - 33% infill

For a DLP (Digital Light Process) 3D printer:

Footprint: off-bed scaffolding supports
Print dimensions: 20 - 60 mm diameter (for most desktop printers)
Quality: 0.05 - 0.1 mm/layer
