Life: A non-spinose deeper dwelling planktic species with algal symbionts. It is abundant in tropical to subtropical waters of the modern ocean. Distinguishing features: This species forms a thickly calcified gametogenic 'cortex' that has a porcelaneous texture. Typical adult size >250 microns.
