Globoturborotalita rubescens

A Spinose Planktic Foraminifera
Picture
Globoturborotalita rubescens
Life: G.
rubescens is a surface-subsurface dwelling symbiont bearing spinose foraminifera. This species is common in warm (tropical to subtropical) waters of the modern ocean.
Distinguishing features: This species has a trochospiral test and a single large umbilical aperture and 4 chambers in the final whorl. The entire shell has a pink color, though sometimes the juvenile chambers are darker in color compared to the final whorl. G. rubescens can be distinguished from G. ruber pink by the lack of secondary apertures on the spiral side. Typical adult size <150 microns.
Other names: Globigerina rubescens

More information: mikrotax; foraminifera.eu; Brummer & Kucera, 2022

Downloadable Data:
There are 5 scanned G. rubescens shells. These are fossil specimens from a shallow core on the Ontong Java Plateau.

Note: Data 'stacks' contain the minimally processed 3D data (TIF files) that can be imported into your favorite 3D data processing software program (we use imageJ). The STL file is processed and ready for 3D printing.
